DigiCap participated as a lead technology company in the recent ARK Mediacom, Inc. (ARK) proof of concept test. The demonstration was the first end-to-end delivery of IP streaming video content utilizing the next generation ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard from studio origination over satellite to the consumer edge. DigiCap home media gateway, SmartXess TV, proved to be a viable contributor in the broadcast ATSC 3.0 ecosystem. This edge device is the consumer gateway which completes the path for delivery of IP video stream services nationwide over a broadcast architecture such as the ARK network.
“It is exciting to be part of ATSC 3.0 trials with ARK. Our ATSC 3.0 head-end gear and SmartXess TV enables true end-to-end distribution of ATSC 3.0 IP packets to users at home,” said Pete Han, CEO of DigiCAP. “ARK and the team of partners are doing amazing stuff. It is good news for ATSC 3.0.”
Along with the 13 companies from three continents that participated, Hitachi Comark served as system integrator and Intelsat provided the satellite IP transmission during the milestone event.
Dick Fiore, president of Hitachi Comark commented, “Comark Digital Services was founded for this particular purpose, to bring about exciting new ways of utilizing the ATSC-3 standard to enhance the viewing experience, and to expand IP based services to areas that previously were under deployed. This is just another great step forward by leaders of organizations that have the vision and drive to make things happen.”
ARK CEO, Vern Fotheringham added that, “The most exciting thing about broadcast 5G is our now-demonstrated ability to simulcast content across a nationwide IP multicast network that enables virtually unlimited OTT video and IP data delivery directly to consumers. This is a stark contrast to the existing fixed and mobile carrier’s reliance on unicast one-to-one connection-based solutions that further impact the over-stressed architecture of today’s Internet.”
