In response to the continuing threat to television broadcast spectrum, we announce the formation of the Advanced Television Broadcasting Alliance, formerly known as the Coalition for Free TV and Broadband.
A provision attached to the payroll tax bill passed this Friday by Congress and expected on the President’s desk for signature tomorrow allows the Federal Communications Commission to auction off television airwaves and compensate some broadcasters from a portion of the proceeds. Not all broadcasters will be included in the compensation, including most LPTV stations.
The organization believes there will be unintended consequences that parting with airwaves could have on future innovation, TV signals and the 46 million viewers that still rely on over-the-air TV.
The Advanced Television Broadcasting Alliance goal is to preserve and promote the efficient and effective use of all television broadcast spectrum. For more information, see http://www.BroadcastingAlliance.org
