Perry Atkinson, ATBA Board member and President and CEO of theDove Media Inc., believes that station operators that transition to ATSC 3.0 will strengthen the low power television community.
Atkinson is ready to make that belief a reality.
“With something such as ATSC 3.0, you don’t really know until you get involved,” says Atkinson. “We, at theDove Media Inc., are prepared to make it work and embrace the inevitable.”
With over 40 years of experience under his belt, Atkinson understands the ins and outs of the LPTV industry. Including that the consequences of certain actions in the industry, such as the arrival of ATSC 3.0, cannot be predicted.
However, Atkinson believes that once LPTV stations begin to make this unavoidable switch to ATSC 3.0, it will allow LPTV to grow out of being one of the most underestimated channels of media.
“Once operators begin to make the switch to ATSC 3.0, this will strengthen the LPTV community and LPTV stations will be considered for permanency because those stations will then be in a serious competition with full power stations, as well,” says Atkinson.
Atkinson started out in the Broadcast industry as a traffic reporter, moving on to a daytime show on an AM station in 1983. He hosted the daytime show for many years, before later becoming the President/CEO of theDove Media Inc.
